Individual Therapy in Brookline, MA

Karen Kurlander Ph.D. believes that mutual respect is essential to successful therapy. In a supportive environment people can comfortably get to the heart of their concerns and create a realistic positive assessment of what they are able to do and where they are trying to get.    Karen helps people to access their own resources and learn new skills to achieve their goals.

Dr. Kurlander brings many years of training and experience to her work.

Along with a strong foundation in Traditional Therapy, Karen has pursued extensive training in Cognitive Behavioral approaches with particular interest in the use of Mindfulness. Her broad experience allows her to be flexible and intervene at a deep level that fosters emotional and behavioral change.    Through personalized treatment she can help you examine the source of your issue, analyze the emotions associated with it and change the resulting negative thoughts and behaviors. Clients often report that they feel better and have changed in ways that are noticed and valued by those that know them.

When desired, Mindfulness training is integrated into psychotherapy. This approach brings a deep level of calm and insight to the process.  It fosters people’s capacity to view themselves and others realistically and compassionately, increasing self-esteem and the ability to change.  The outcome is a greater degree of comfort and skill when dealing with oneself, others and life.
